This week, my very dear friend & (in heart) adopted brother, asked for my help.
AS A WRITER.
gasp.
Be still, my heart!
Did I mention how proud I am of him?
His writing blew my socks off. He's JUST 17, and a senior in high school.
Yeah- cause he's smarter than a 5th grader(sorry that was corny).
The assignment in his Literary class was to write a personal statement, describing an experience that highlights your character, or somehow shapes it.

I didn't have to help him much, granted...he has well thought-out things to say, just off the top of his head on a daily basis, so for him to write it on paper was a breeze. At least his wording looked that way, to me.
Guess who's helping me write my letter to the Gary Manuel Institute, when I apply??!
The Personal Statement required a maximum of 650, minimum of 500 words. His total was neither over-achieving, nor did he sell himself short, coming up at 555.
Here's my favorite line:
"An artist that can channel his emotions into his art creates a masterpiece that emanates his feelings to the audience, whereas an artist that releases untamed passion creates an object that only he can understand."
and my second favorite:
"Passion is a wild force, and without the guide of moderation its effects are destructive."
Wow. I would say that I am pleased (& flattered?!) to have a protégé in my lame adventuresome life of writing... but I think that paper topped my best in High School. (gasp?! Oh you're not surprised? pfff... whaddya know anyway?)
Maybe he'd be so kind as to guest-post for my blog someday?! :)
Implore Patrick, my faithful readers!!
What would you like to see written, from a 17 year old Musical, Literary, and Algebraic genius??
IN OTHER NEWS... I am dying to go to the Aquarium, here in Seattle. Remember when my friend came to visit we were SUPPOSED to go to the aquarium back in August? Yeah it never happened; here's hoping for THIS month! WOOT!
Have a great weekend, you little turkeys. I can't wait to post a delicious poetism riff for ya, next Tuesday. PLEASE BE SAFE. AND NO ACTUAL DYING.
I don't approve. Got it?
